dispute over the succession of João Pedro Louro between João Pedro Luís and Clara de Sousa Alves

The Social Democratic Youth Congress (JSD) will be held on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of May, in Viseu, with the succession of João Pedro Louro being contested by João Pedro Luís and Clara de Sousa Alves, as DN said in this Friday’s edition.

The scheduling of the congress was approved by the National Council of the social democratic youth organization, which took place this Saturday afternoon, in Alcochete. This way, the JSD will decide its leadership, to which João Pedro Louro cannot re-apply, due to age limits, a week before the expected date of the direct elections that should reconfirm Luís Montenegro as president of the PSD.

The candidacy of the current secretary general of the JSD, João Pedro Luís, had been announced earlier this week, with the motto “The Strength of the Future”, promising to bring the organization closer to topics such as Education, Housing, Territorial Cohesion, Artificial Intelligence and Security, and during the National Council Clara de Sousa Alves confirmed that she will also seek to succeed João Pedro Louro. The former deputy presented herself with the motto “Courage to Make a Difference”, arguing that JSD “has to regain relevance and represent young people”.

During the National Council, Clara de Sousa Alves defended a structured vision of the challenges of her generation, focusing on the role of education as a social elevator. “We can change many things at JSD, but we cannot give up our commitment to Secondary and Higher Education, as we have done in recent years”, said the candidatewho is currently part of the cabinet of the Minister of Labor, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho.
