GUADALAJARA.- The former Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa and former LPGA number one, was named ambassador of the Guadalajara headquarters in the 2026 World Cup.
After receiving a replica of Trionda, the official ball of the tournament, Ochoa said she felt proud to represent Mexico once again and to support the city where she was born and grew up as an athlete.
“What I have enjoyed the most in my career is representing Mexico at an international level, being able to achieve my dream of being the best in the world and returning to my city with all the love and affection. Here I am for the benefit of a healthy life, how important sport is and how beautiful soccer is,” she said at a press conference.
Ochoa, with 27 wins and 158 weeks as the best golfer in the world on the LPGA tour, stated that collaborating in the promotion of the World Cup is a recognition of her career and the love she feels for her hometown.
“We all know how important soccer is and what drives the World Cup. I am happy to represent them as an ambassador, let them know that I feel extremely proud,” she said.
Michael Arreolacommissioner of the Mexican Soccer Federation and vice president of the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Commission, thanked Ochoa for his support of football.
“Lorena is an asset of our country and that she is leading as an ambassador of the World Cup is a source of pride. Thank you for supporting soccer, I know you have done it for a long time but today at the World Cup is a great occasion,” he said.
