EDP Expands Solar Energy in Navarra with New Photovoltaic Plants

EDP has reinforced renewable capacity in the Spanish electricity system, with the entry into operation of two new photovoltaic plants in Navarra, the energy company announced this Thursday, 26th.

“Both plants are the company’s first to come into operation in Spain this year and represent EDP’s first renewable projects in the Navarra region, reinforcing its commitment to the development of clean energy in the neighboring country”, reads the information released.

According to the company, these projects will reinforce the commitment to renewable energy, as each new megawatt (MG) contributes to strengthening energy independence, reducing exposure to volatility in international markets and accelerating an energy transition.

Together, the two plants reach 90 MW: Cierzo II (42 MW) and Cierzo IV (47.5 MW).

Between the two renewable energy projects, the company has installed more than 160,000 solar modules, which will generate energy equivalent to the average electrical consumption of around 45,000 homes annually.

From an environmental point of view, and considering a 30-year useful life of the plants, these projects will avoid the emission of around 400 thousand tons of carbon dioxide, said EDP.

The construction of these solar parks generated more than 200 jobs in more than 60 companies, the company added.
