This Thursday, February 12, Norwegian police carried out searches of properties belonging to the former prime minister Thorbjorn Jaglandas part of an investigation related to links to Jeffrey Epsteinadvanced the Euronews.
According to Jagland’s lawyer, Anders Brosveet, the investigations cover both the former ruler’s main residence and leisure properties. The investigation was opened after the release, in January, of documents from the United States Department of Justice.
The files indicate that Jagland and members of his family would have spent vacation periods with Epstein between 2011 and 2018, a period in which the former prime minister chaired the Nobel Committee, responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, and served as secretary general of the Council of Europe.
At the head of the EC, Jagland was a controversial figure, having been criticized by political and media sectors for his stance towards Russia. In 2019, he led efforts to restore Moscow’s voting rights in the organization, a decision that would be reversed after the start of war with Ukraine in 2022.
