Exhibition and tribute mark IADE Day

An exhibition and the awarding of badges to professor Helena Souto will mark IADE Day on Monday, March 23rd. From 4:30 p.m., the Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication at the European University marks this day with the inauguration of the exhibition “Fragmentos do Design Português”, an exhibition that brings together pieces from the private collection of designer and director of IADE, Carlos Rosa. This celebration also includes the awarding of badges to professor Helena Souto in recognition of her contribution to the history of design in Portugal.

In the announcement of the event it is explained that the exhibition brings together “pieces as diverse as furniture, products, newspapers, philately, among others, that cross different eras and cultural and productive contexts. Among the examples presented are, for example, chairs designed by Daciano da Costa and José Espinho, stamps created by Almada Negreiros or books and publications by designers like Sebastião Rodrigues and Victor Palla”.

The pieces on display cover a period between 1920 and the 2000s. Paying homage to Helena Souto, PhD in Art Sciences, researcher at UNIDCOM/RETURN and specialist in the History of Design and Art in Portugal, IADE highlights the central role it has played in the study and preservation of the memory of design not country.
