Fire in a luxury development under construction in Troia

The Na Praia tourist resort, located on the Troia peninsula, is being consumed by flames. The project is the result of a partnership between José António Uva and Sandra Ortegada, Spanish businesswoman Sandra Ortega, heiress of Inditex.

The alert for the fire was given at 4:40 am and in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday, March 8th, the flames were still raging in the tourist resort, which was scheduled to open on June 1st. However, the project promoter has already announced that the opening will have to be postponed.

The Judiciary Police were at the scene during the morning to carry out investigations to determine the causes of the fire.

The flames affected “some rooms” located in the central part of the hotel, which was “in the final stages of finishing”, according to the project promoter.

“The Na Praia hotel was partially affected following the fire that broke out this morning, without causing any casualties,” said José António Uva, quoted in a statement sent to Lusa.

According to the businessman, “only one hotel building was partially affected”, covering a length of 50 meters.

Na Praia is expected to have 113 rooms, 45 suites, five villas and 63 bungalows and will offer four restaurants.
