Food Basket Reaches New Maximum of 254.40 Euros: Deco Proteste Reveals Increase

The essential basket of 63 products monitored by Deco Proteste increased by 0.08 euros this week compared to the previous week and accumulated an increase of 12.57 euros since the beginning of the year, reaching a new maximum of 254.40 euros.

In a statement released this Thursday, March 26, Deco Proteste highlights that, despite the slight increase compared to last week, “this increase again represents the highest value since the consumer protection organization began this analysis, in 2022”.

“A year ago it was possible to buy exactly the same products for 17.46 euros less (7.37% less)”, he states, adding that, “at the beginning of 2022, it was possible to spend 66.70 euros less (a difference of 35.53%)”.

In the last week, between March 18 and 25, the products whose prices increased the most in percentage terms were zucchini (17% to R$ 2.75), chucha tomatoes (15% to R$ 2.60) and onions (10% to R$ 1.42).

Compared to the same period last year, the biggest price increase was seen in products such as kale (53%, currently costing R$ 1.87), roasted ground coffee (39%, to the current R$ 5.15) and sea bass (39%, which is reflected in a cost of R$ 9.81 per kilogram (kg)).

Since Deco Proteste began this analysis, on January 5, 2022, the biggest percentage increases were in beef for cooking (122% to 12.89 euros/kg), kale (88% to 1.87 euros/kg) and eggs (84% to 2.10 euros).

The essential basket monitored by the association includes meat, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, groceries and fish, including, among others, products such as turkey, chicken, horse mackerel, hake, onions, potatoes, carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham, milk, cheese, butter, among many others.
