Geovany Quenda returns to training at Sporting four months after injury

Portuguese under-21 international footballer Geovany Quenda is back training at Sporting, having recovered from a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot that forced him to stop for almost four months.

The winger, who was injured in the 13th round derby against Benfica (1-1), on December 5th, at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, underwent surgery in London and had a long recovery period at Chelsea, the club he will represent next season, and is now ready for the final phase of the season.

Quenda, 18 years old, and who already has a signed commitment to Chelsea for next season, took part in training at Academia da Alcochete today, in a session in which coach Rui Borges also included midfielder Giorgi Kochorashvili.

The Georgian international was out of options due to a traumatic injury almost two months ago, having played his last game in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, in the home victory against AVS (3-2), on February 5th.

Still without internationals, in the selections, Rui Borges had several young people in training, such as Bruno Ramos, David Moreira, Rômulo Júnior, Rodrigo Dias, Kauã Oliveira, Samuel Justo, Mateo Tanlongo, Lucas Anjos and Paulo Cardoso.

Sporting’s football team, which is preparing for Friday’s reception against Santa Clara (8:30 p.m.), in a game from the 28th round of the I Football League, has a new training session scheduled for Wednesday in Alcochete, behind closed doors.

In the I Liga, Sporting is in second place, seven points behind leader FC Porto and with the same 65 points as Benfica, but with the ‘lions’ having played one game less, from the 26th round, at home to Tondela.

After Friday’s game, the green and white team will host Arsenal on Tuesday, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, starting at 8pm.
