Global Media threatens to go to court to stop the use of Notícias Direct’s customer base by Notícias Ilimitadas

The management of Notícias Direct, a company belonging to the Global Media Group (owner of DN), will resort to all judicial instruments at its disposal, if necessary, to defend its rights in the dispute with Notícias Ilimitadas (NI), controlled by Parsoc, owned by businessman José Rogeira de Jesus.

This Saturday, Jornal de Notícias and other Notícias Ilimitadas titles published a note informing that the distribution of publications to their subscribers will resume from Monday. NI intends to sell JN subscriptions, The Game and other titles, to readers who have already purchased subscriptions to these Notícias Direct publications. From what DN learned, several ND distributors have already been contacted to start working for Notícias Ilimitadas.

To DN, a source from Global Media said that Notícias Direct will be obliged to use all legal means at its disposal to prevent possible use of its customer base, if another entity intends to use this data improperly, to divert customers and obtain economic advantages.

“Noticias Direct regrets the impact that this situation is having on its customers who subscribe to JN, The Game and other NI publications and, once again, demonstrates total openness to, in a spirit of dialogue and mutual respect, find a solution that allows the delivery of these titles to continue”, highlighted the same source.

Notícias Direct is the company responsible for distributing and managing subscriptions for the brands of the Global Media Group, which also owns Diário de Notícias. Until August 2024, the Global Media Group also owned Jornal de Notícias, the sports program O Jogo and other titles that, on that date, were acquired by the newly created Notícias Ilimitadas. At the time, Global Media took a 30% stake in the company.

Notícias Ilimitadas is owned by the company Verbos Imaculados, whose main shareholder is Parsoc (51%), owned by businessman José Manuel Rogeira de Jesus. The remainder of the share capital is in the hands of director Domingos Andrade (10%), FEPI (10%), Mário Andrade Ferreira (10%) and Mesosystem SA (19%). Last month, Verbos Imaculados purchased the 30% stake that Global Media still held in NI, thus consummating the separation between the two media groups.

NI bought JN and “O Jogo”, but didn’t want Notícias Direct and its 37 employees

Notícias Direct denies that there are amounts owed to its 30 distributors, contrary to what has been reported. In addition to these service providers, ND has seven staff members who manage subscriptions.

For more than a decade, Notícias Direct managed subscriptions to Jornal de Notícias and all Global Media publications. ND purchased titles at a discount on the cover price, and then resold them to subscribers at a discount. The difference between the two values was used to pay operating costs.

When JN, The Gamea Around the World and other titles were purchased by NI, in mid-2024, Notícias Direct continued to distribute these publications, because the group of businessmen who purchased them were not available to acquire the distributor, nor to assume responsibilities with their employees and service providersa source from the Global Media group told DN.

The situation remained stable until September 2025, when NI decided to increase the sales price of publications to ND by 66%, without the latter’s agreement. According to ND management, this “unilateral contractual change” caused severe losses and put the company’s survival at risk, forcing it to suspend the distribution of NI publications.
