Hackers detected a vulnerability in the FIA driver categorization portal, which allowed them to access, without major difficulties, the page’s administrator profile.
Once at this stage, they managed to gain access to personal documents, license records and other personal data of drivers, including that of current champion Max Verstappen.
“We stopped the tests after seeing that it was possible to access the passport, CV, license, hash password and PII of Max Verstappen. This data could be consulted for all F1 drivers with a categorization, along with confidential information from internal FIA operations.”explained the group in a statement published on its internet portal.
The hackers ensure that they did not store or share any information, having even alerted the FIA to what had happened.
The entity that governs motorsport worldwide, cited by Gazzetta dello Sportsays that the targeted website was immediately removed from the internet until the security system was reinforced, with the help of the three hackers involved.
According to the FIA, no other digital platforms linked to the organization were affected and some of the targeted drivers were informed of the attack.
