The spokesman for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, Hazem Qassem, said that the movement does not wish to participate in any administrative arrangements related to the governance of the Gaza Strip, but calls for the speedy formation of a community support committee to assume the reins of government in the Strip.

Qassem confirmed, in a statement to Quds News Network, that the current government agencies in Gaza will continue to perform their duties until the Community Support Committee takes over the reins of affairs in the Strip.

He pointed out that the second phase of the agreement to stop the war on Gaza is “a complex phase and requires a national consensus,” indicating that it began with steps towards formulating a national position.

The implementation of the first phase of the agreement began on October 10, with a ceasefire, the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army to what was called the yellow line, and the exchange of prisoners.

The United States later announced the start of the second phase of the agreement, which includes governance arrangements in the Gaza Strip, the formation of an “international stabilization force,” and the disarmament of the Strip.

The Hamas spokesman said that the negotiations confirm that “the existence of the occupation is temporary as stated in the agreements, and we will continue to follow up on this matter with the mediators and guarantor states, in parallel with adhering to our right to resist the occupation on Palestinian land in the ways we deem appropriate.”
