A leader of a Neapolitan mafia clan in Italy, accused of murder and on the run for more than a year, was arrested on the night of Friday, April 4, on the Amalfi coast, the Italian police announced this Saturday.

Roberto Mazzarella, head of the Mazzarella clan of the Camorra, was arrested in the beach town of Vietri sul Mare, the police said in a statement.

The 48-year-old man, who was with his wife and two children, was located “in a luxurious mansion” on the Amalfi Coast and offered no resistance, he added.

Mazzarella, who was on the Ministry of the Interior’s list of most dangerous fugitives, had been on the run since January 28, 2025, the day he escaped from prison on suspicion of qualified homicide, the police said.

The Mazzarella clan is known to be involved in counterfeiting in Naples, considered the capital of counterfeit notes.

Last month, police detained 16 people close to the Mazzarella clan for cybercrime.
