Thieves stole paintings by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse from a museum in Italy a week ago, police said yesterday.

Four hooded men entered the villa of the Magnani Rocca Foundation, near Parma, Italy, and took the works during the early hours of last Monday, said a Carabinieri spokesman, confirming the information from the Rai television network.

The thieves They took the fish, a work by Auguste Renoir; Still life with cherries, by Paul Cézanne; y Odalisque on a terrace by Henri Matisse.
The criminals forced a door to access a room on the first floor of the building before escaping through the museum park.
Police are reviewing video surveillance footage from the premises, as well as those from neighboring businesses, the spokesperson said.
The thieves acted “in less than three minutes, without improvising, in a structured and organized manner“declared the museum.

They couldn’t”complete the robbery thanks to the activation of surveillance systems and the rapid intervention of security personnel and the Carabinieri”, he added.
Museum officials suggest that the target was not specifically the three stolen paintings.
Located 20 kilometers from Parma, the Magnani Rocca Foundation houses the collection of art historian Luigi Magnani, which includes works by Dürer, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Monet, among others.
The foundation also exhibits a Cagnes Landscape by Renoir and hosted one of the French painter’s masterpieces, The Walk, on loan from the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, for an exhibition in 2024.
