Inflation in China slows to 1% in March, below analysts’ forecasts

The consumer price index (CPI), the main indicator of inflation in China, increased 1% year-on-year in March, a slowdown of 0.3% compared to the previous month’s increase, the highest in the last three years.

The data released this Friday, 10th, by the National Statistics Office (GNE) were below what was expected by analysts, who predicted a slight slowdown from 1.3%, in February, to 1.2%.

The same body also released the production price index (IPP), which measures industrial prices and which increased 0.5% year-on-year in March, registering the first increase since September 2022.
