Influencer Tiago Grila accused of three crimes after being run over in Amadora

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) of Amadora filed a formal charge against the digital influencer Tiago Grila, aged 34, for committing three serious crimes related to a run-over that occurred in January 2024. According to an order from the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the District of Lisbon West, the accused will be charged with serious physical harm due to negligence, failure to provide assistance and driving without a legal license.

The facts date back to the night of January 17, 2024, near Bingo da Amadora. The victim, Marina Sousa, had just left the establishment and was waiting for the green light for pedestrians. According to the indictment, “while crossing the pedestrian crossing, the victim was hit by the front of the vehicle driven by the accused, falling and losing consciousness”, can be read in a statement from the MP.

Escape without providing assistance

One of the central points of the accusation concerns Tiago Grila’s behavior after the clash. The document indicates that the defendant got out of the vehicle and approached the victim lying on the ground. However, “after being with her for a few moments, he returned to the vehicle and fled to an unknown location, without providing any assistance or calling INEM”.

The investigation, assisted by the PSP, also found that the influencer “he was not in possession of a document that legally authorized him to drive the type of vehicle he was in”.

The impact and lack of immediate assistance resulted in severe consequences for the victim. The Public Prosecutor’s Office emphasizes that, as a direct result of the accused’s conduct, the victim suffered serious injuries and prolonged pain that “affected their ability to work for more than a year”.

The case gained media coverage after Tiago Grila spoke about the incident on a podcast, statements that he later tried to devalue as being a “marketing strategy”. However, the evidence collected in the investigation (NUIPC: 26/24.9PTAMD) was considered sufficient by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to support the accusation and take the case to trial.
