Iran agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz only if the US and Israel stop attacking

Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, officially announced that his country agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the condition that the United States and Israel cease attacks.

“If the attacks against Iran stop, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations,” said the chancellor of the Islamic republic on the social network X.

The above was part of the two-week truce announced by Donald Trump, after threatening to launch an attack to “destroy Iranian civilization” if they did not reopen transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Over a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible in coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical limitations,” the official added.

Negotiations will begin

On the afternoon of April 7, Trump reported that, at the request of Pakistan, he would suspend the bombings against Iran planned for Tuesday night for a period of two weeks.

During this truce, Iran agreed to negotiate with the United States in search of a peace agreement and sent a list of 20 points on which Trump stated that they could begin to work.

“It has been decided at the highest level that Iran will engage, over a period of two weeks…, negotiations with the American side in Islamabad,” Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said in a statement.

The meetings will begin on April 10 and will be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, who have acted as mediators in the conflict between the warring nations.

Iran clarified that dialogue does not mean the end of the war and that they will not accept the cessation of hostilities until negotiations are satisfactorily concluded; what they warned could last more than two weeks.
