Thursday has arrived, the day of the cultural agenda of the DN Brazil to Lisbon and surrounding areas. Over the next few days, the highlights range from Liniker’s visit to the MEO Arena to the premiere of the play “O Cicómero”, at Teatro Taborda, which revisits the colonial heritage between Portugal and Brazil. On Sunday, the highlight will be the conversation between singer Xênia França in conversation with historian Ivan Lima in Chiado, and musician Higor Sartori, who ends the weekend with samba at Fábrica Braço de Prata.

Liniker at MEO Arena

Liniker opens the weekend in the Portuguese capital with a show from the album’s European tour Cashewwhich sold out houses in London, Paris and Amsterdam. The singer from São Paulo returns to Lisbon after a brief stint at the Coala Festival, now with a full performance at the MEO Arena. Since winning the Latin Grammy for “Best Brazilian Popular Music Album” in 2022, Liniker has established himself as one of the most important names in contemporary Brazilian music.

The new work won four categories at the Multishow Awards and was acclaimed by critics, bringing soul, samba and MPB to the stage in Lisbon. Tickets are still available for sale and can be purchased through from this link. The show is scheduled for 9pm.

Play “O Cicómero” at Teatro Taborda

Also on Friday (10) premieres Or Cicomerenew creation of the group O Fim do Teatro, hosted by Teatro da Garagem. The play revisits a little-remembered chapter in Portuguese history: decades after the abolition of the importation of slaves, a family of descendants of enslaved people lives in the former house of their masters, until the arrival of a widow from Brazil reopens wounds and memories.

With text by Pedro Saavedra and historical consultancy by Isabel Castro Henriques, the show mixes drama and historical essay in a dialogue between past and present. The play is scheduled for 9pm.

Conversation with Xênia França at FNAC Chiado

On Sunday, FNAC Chiado welcomes Xênia França, winner of the Latin Grammy 2023 with the album In the Name of the Star. The singer and songwriter from Bahia participates in a conversation with historian Ivan Lima, creator of the project What I Grew Up Hearingin a meeting that promises to bring the Portuguese public closer to new Brazilian music.

Between stories and reflections, Xênia talks about her career, ancestry and the strength of black women in contemporary art, while Ivan, resident in Porto, brings his reading about music and cultural memory.

Higor Sartori at Fábrica Braço de Prata

To end Sunday, singer and composer Higor Sartori presents the album show The People Grinding Machine at the Braço de Prata Factory. Based in Portugal since 2019, the musician focuses on an original samba with sharp lyrics and contemporary arrangements, in a work that moves between tradition and experimentation. The night also features appearances by Camila Rondón, Patú Samba and Luca Argel.

When? Sunday (12), at 9pm.

Where? At the Braço de Prata Factory, Lisbon.
