Lisbon. Education managers at EB1 Rainha Santa Isabel question grouping change without debate

The association of parents and guardians of EB1 + Jardim de Infância Rainha Santa Isabel sent a letter to Diário de Notícias presenting the challenge to the Lisbon City Council for a change of grouping. In the new Educational Charter presented and voted in favor at the Lisbon City Council, the school, included in the Padre Bartolomeu de Gusmão grouping, with headquarters at the Josefa de Óbidos school, becomes part of the Manuel da Maia grouping.

The community attests to the DN that “it was never consulted” and that “there is no basis” for the decision, indicating that in that same Educational Letter there is a wrong mentionthat the school has been integrated into the Manuel da Maia grouping since 2023-24, which is not the case, in fact.

“We don’t know if it’s an oversight, but it referred to 2023/24 and it is assumed that it would apply in 2026/27. What we want is for it to be rectified because it doesn’t make sense. There was no consultation with the entities or prediction of impact as legally foreseen”, explains Helena Silva, in charge of educating a kindergarten child, highlighting the intransigence on the issue of reversing the measure. It highlights two main facts: the choice of groups for the school journey and the teachers.

“When parents enroll a student in this school, they will think about the entire journey in the group, even to guarantee places in advance. Now, we are all caught by surprise. Then, of course, the issue of teachers and assistants, who are assigned to the group. This would mean that they would not accompany the students, with what this implies in terms of stability for the children”, he details, remembering that competitions for teacher placements have tight deadlines and the appropriate response to the case is necessary.
