Recalling public complaints regarding the existence of differentiation in meals at the Colégio dos Salesianos de Manique, located in Cascais, and the “stigma” that public regime students say they feel, Livre submitted a draft resolution to Parliament in which it calls for the promotion, through the General Inspectorate of Education and Science, of “inspection actions against all educational establishments with association contracts”, which ensure that “all students covered by association contracts have access to nutritionally adequate school meals”, also advancing the possibility of “hiring nutritionists for each School Group and non-group schools.”
Livre mentioned the complaints of the aforementioned College that the State pays 1.46 euros for each meal. Therefore, in the proposal headed by Paulo Muacho, new parliamentary leader, remembers that “for a decade” “values have remained unchanged”, therefore considering the situation “incomprehensible.” Therefore, the party asks to “evaluate and update the value of public participation in school meals within the scope of association contracts so that there cannot be differentiated treatment between students, depending on their attendance regime.”
It is worth remembering that the school management imputes responsibility to the Ministry of Education for the difference in quality of meals served to students who pay monthly fees and those covered by an association contract. This Tuesday, the Minister of Education ended up getting around the issue in another way, considering that the coexistence of the two regimes, as occurs in the Salesians, “highlights” inequalities.
“Perhaps, what needs to be considered is whether it makes sense in a school to have both regimes [oferta privada e contratos de associação]. I would say that this could be the issue”, said Fernando Alexandre.
