Love and Conflict between Jews and Arabs on the Portuguese Stage

This play has a cast with Cucha Carvalheiro, David Esteves, Fernando Luís, Madalena Almeida, Manuela Couto, Virgílio Castelo and two final year students from the Higher School of Theater and Cinema, Duarte Romão and Laura Garnelwho also contribute to the show by playing live music.

The original music is by Vitória and has Arab and Jewish influences. “She rescued a song that is heard, a Sephardic song, here from the Iberian Peninsula”, says Álvaro Correia.

Virgílio Castelo plays the role of Etgar and considers this story “very well written. This author has a very modern way of dealing with a current and profound topic in a theatrically ingenious way. In other words, there is no certain type of dramaturgy in this text, as is the case in many modern texts, which are more pamphleteer than actually dramaturgical. This text objectively has a message to convey, but it conveys it in a theatrically brilliant way. The theatrical construction is fantastic, and that’s why I love the play, because it deals with a very important subject, in a theatrically appealing way”, he tells DN.
