The President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, plans to visit Portugal on April 21st, a Brazilian presidential source told Lusa this Monday, April 6th.
According to a source at Palácio do Planalto, the Brazilian head of state is scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and the President of the Republic, António José Seguro.
If confirmed, this will be the first meeting between António José Seguro and Lula da Silva, who was unable to attend the Portuguese president’s inauguration because he already had a meeting scheduled with the president of South Africa, Brazil’s BRICS partner.
On the other hand, Lula da Silva and Montenegro met twice last year (both in Brazil), first on February 19, in Brasília, during the XIV Brazil-Portugal Summit, and then, in November, in Belém do Pará, during COP30.
The same source confirmed to Lusa that the Brazilian head of state should be in Spain between April 16 and 18, at the invitation of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, for a bilateral visit to Spain on April 17, also guaranteeing participation in the fourth high-level meeting of the “In Defense of Democracy” initiative, on April 18, in Barcelona.
