A man was arrested in Amadora after running over a PSP agent during a police escape, following a patrol operationaccording to information provided by Lusa. According to the Public Security Police, the incident occurred late in the afternoon of last Tuesday, March 31.
The police force also reported that the situation unfolded when agents identified a motorcyclist traveling “irregularly” and ordered him to stop using sound and light signals. The driver did not obey and began fleeing through several city streets.
During the chase, the suspect performed several dangerous maneuvers, including driving in the wrong direction, at high speed and on sidewalks, putting other road users at risk.
Also according to the PSP, during the interception attempt, the man again disobeyed police orders and ended up directing the motorcycle at an officer, running over him and causing him to fall. After the vehicle was lost, the suspect was immobilized and detained at the scene.
Both the agent and the detainee suffered injuries and were transported to the Amadora-Sintra Hospital, where they received assistance.
The PSP also indicated that the man did not have a legal license to drive, a reason that would have been the cause of the escape, “as he himself admitted”. The detainee was charged on suspicion of the crimes of qualified physical integrity against an agent of authority, dangerous driving and driving without a legal license, and will be brought before the court.
