Three sea bars are closed and one is closed in mainland Portugal, due to the sea unrest caused by storm Therese, a source from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) told Lusa this Thursday, March 19th.
According to the latest update from IPMA (Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere), from 8pm on Thursday, of high precipitation, strong winds and sea agitation, “three sea bars are closed, Esposende, in the north, Portinho da Ericeira, in the district of Lisbon, and Alvor, in the Algarve. The Figueira da Foz sea bar is also restricted”ANEPC commander Pedro Araújo told Lusa.
According to the person responsible for Civil Protection, since midnight on Wednesday until now that entity has recorded 181 incidents across the country due to bad weather, the majority in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (63), the most affected by the storm. In the northern region, 40 were registered, in Coimbra 52 and in the district of Faro 17.
The majority of incidents, 96, were due to the need to clean roads, due to rain and wind, 36 were due to falling structures and 27 due to falling trees, said the same person responsible.
On the ground, 618 operational personnel and 244 vehicles were involved in responding to these incidents, he said.
In the coming hours, the situation is expected to worsen in the south of the country, in the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro, said the head of Civil Protection.
According to the IPMA statement, between 8:34 pm on Thursday and 11:59 pm this Friday, precipitation, wind and sea disturbances are expected, caused by depression Therese on the mainland, which will move slowly south, continuing to affect the weather until Sunday, the 22nd.
“In its circulation, the formation of organized lines of instability is expected, which will tend to advance from south to north over the continent’s territory and which will have a greater impact on the Central and Southern regions”, adds the note from that institute.
Precipitation will be heavy at times, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, with greater impact in the central and southern regions.
In the south of the country, this situation could continue for the following days.
The districts where there should be a greater probability of heavy precipitation occurring will be those on the coast south of Cape Mondego and those in the interior south of Serra da Estrela.
