Meo Expects Complete Replacement of the Fixed Network by April 30th

The availability of Meo’s fixed network in the areas affected by the bad weather on Tuesday, March 24th, is 95.9% and the service is expected to be completely restored by April 30th.

Contacted by the Lusa agency, the operator’s official source said that, “currently, the mobile network is restored in its coverage and capacity components.”

However, “The recovery of the fixed network has proven to be more complex, since, in many places, it is not just the repair of specific failures that is at stake, but the complete reconstruction of sections of the network”.

Still, “as of March 24, fixed network availability in the affected areas is 95.9%,” said the same source.

The current forecast points to the complete restoration of the service by April 30th, although this period may vary depending on specific conditions on the ground and external factors. Until then, and whenever necessary, alternative transitional solutions can be used to guarantee the provision of the service”, highlighted an official source.

As for credits relating to periods of unavailability of telecommunications services to customers, Meo maintains the same position sent to Lusa exactly one month ago, on February 24th.

“In relation to billing, and as previously announced, Meo has automatically credited periods of unavailability of telecommunications services to customers located in areas affected by the storms, in accordance with current legislation.”

Impacted customers “receive a credit corresponding to the days in which they had no service, reflected in the invoice following the period of unavailability”, concluded the source.

Lusa contacted NOS and Vodafone about the same topic, but so far has not received a response.
