The Government of Mexico assured, as President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced today, it will exhaust all legal and diplomatic avenues to make visible the problems that arise in some detention centers in the United States.
In addition, the president reiterated her commitment to ensuring the protection and dignity of Mexican people abroad.

Headed by the general director of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning of the Foreign Ministry, Vanessa Calva Ruiz, regular consuls of the region and lawyers for the families of people who died in the Adelanto center.
This afternoon a press conference will be held at the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles, where the participation of the Government of Mexico, through the amicus curiae figure, in the LT Mesrobian lawsuit filed on January 26, 2026, will be announced.
Unsanitary conditions
This lawsuit was filed by Public Counsel of Los Angeles, alleging unsanitary conditions, punitive isolation, limited basic needs including medical and mental health care, access to fresh air, adequate nutrition and water, and sanitary living conditions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that it is carrying out all consular actions at its disposal in response to the recent death of a compatriot in the custody of immigration authorities in the United States, in the Adelanto detention center, California, on March 25, which is added to two more at the same site.
During the visit to Los Angeles by Mexican consular authorities, they will hold meetings with the families of people who have died at the Adelanto Center, as well as with organizations whose work focuses on the protection of the human rights of immigrants.

They accuse poor medical care
Letters will also be sent from the Mexican embassy in the United States to legislators at the federal level about the poor medical care at the Adelanto Center.
The Undersecretary for North America of the Foreign Ministry, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, addressed the issue with the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ronald D. Johnson.
In addition, there will be discussions with the California Attorney General, Rob Bonta, who recently presented an amicus curiae in the LT Mesrobian lawsuit, and other California authorities.
A request for a thematic hearing will also be presented before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights on people who died in ICE detention centers.
The Secretary of Foreign Affairs reiterated the call to the responsible authorities so that this unfortunate situation does not continue and an immediate review of the Adelanto center is urgently needed, due to the serious omissions and obvious deficiencies in the provision of medical care to the people in its custody.
