More than 400 police officers left the PSP in 2025

The PSP lost 437 police officers last year with the departure of 895 members and the entry of 458 agents to the institution, indicates the 2025 Annual Internal Security Report (RASI).

According to RASI, the Public Security Police, which has a total of 19,661 police elements, including agents, chiefs and officers, was the security force and service that lost the most personnel last year, while the Judiciary Police (PJ) and the Maritime Police saw the number of professionals increase.

The report states that the majority of police officers who left the PSP were agents (659), followed by chiefs (168) and officers (69).

With a strength of 23,549 members, the National Republican Guard also lost soldiers in 2025 as 715 police officers joined the force last year and 780 left.

In turn, the PJ, which has 2,032 members, almost all of which are inspectors, saw its staff increase last year with 136 joining and 45 police officers leaving the institution.

The Maritime Police, with 522 soldiers, also had a positive balance on the personnel map, with 51 members joining and 18 leaving.

In total, these four security forces and services have 45,764 elements and lost 430 in 2025, according to the report.

The RASI, delivered to parliament on Tuesday, also states that, as a result of the operational activity of the security services forces, one police officer died last year, 10 were injured and required hospital treatment and 755 suffered minor injuries, in addition to the 549 who were attacked but without injuries.
