In order to coordinately attend to the floods in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexicothe local deputy of Morena, Alberto Vanegaspresented an initiative to provide powers to the Secretariat of Comprehensive Water Management (SESGIAGUA) and create coordination mechanisms in the design, implementation and evaluation of stormwater infrastructure programs.

When arguing his proposal, the Morena legislator pointed out that it is urgent to move towards a comprehensive water management model with a metropolitan focus, that promotes intergovernmental coordinationso that entities share information, resources and planning on water problems.
As an example, he warned that almost all of the rainwater, which on average it reaches 700 millimeters annuallyis wasted due to lack of adequate infrastructure for its collection and use.
Through the proposal, he explained, the agency would have, among its main responsibilities, to participate in the formulation and execution of regional strategies. for comprehensive water management, conservation of water bodies and the recharge of aquifers, in order to guarantee equitable supply, efficiency in its distribution and protection of collection sources.
He pointed out that this proposal will strengthen the hydraulic infrastructure in coordination with the environmental authorities of the Metropolitan Zone and the Federation, through the planning and execution of water collection, purification and sanitation projects and water culture programs, to promote its rational use.

Finally, he stressed that with the institutional coordination between the Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Morelosthis policy will acquire a long-term territorial vision.
