The Public Ministry (MP) and the Military Judiciary Police are carrying out searches on Air Force and Navy facilities this Wednesday, February 11, as part of an investigation led by the Lisbon Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
The information from the searches was provided to the Lusa agency by a judicial source – without specifying the facts, but adding that the alleged practice of economic crimes is involved – and confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), the Navy and the Air Force.
“The Air Force confirms that elements of the Public Prosecutor’s Office are at its facilities. It is further noted that, from the outset and as an interested party, the Air Force is collaborating fully and actively with the investigative entities, ensuring full support for the legally stipulated steps”explains this branch of the Armed Forces, in a written response sent to Lusa.
One of the target locations for the search is the Air Force General Staff (EMFA), in Alfragide, in the municipality of Amadora.
Also in a written response, the PGR states that it “confirms the carrying out of searches, within the scope of an investigation led by DIAP Regional de Lisboa”.
The Navy also confirmed that searches were carried out at the Naval Academy, in Alfeite, in the municipality of Almada.
“The Navy confirms that elements of the Public Prosecutor’s Office are located at the Naval Academy facilities, with the Navy collaborating fully and actively with the investigative entities, ensuring full support for the legally stipulated steps”reads the written response from this branch of the Armed Forces sent to Lusa.
According to the same judicial source, the searches include the MP, members of the Military Judicial Police and the Tax Authority (AT).
Lusa questioned the Ministry of Defense, led by Nuno Melo, about these searches, but so far has not received answers.
