Mexico City.- A majority of residents consulted in the mayor’s office Cuauhtemocthey disapprove of the program with which the mayor, Alessandra Rojo de la Vegainvites the population to contribute resources and work to patch the streets, since they consider that the mayor’s administration has the obligation to allocate its public budget to this task, in addition to the fact that the work would have to be carried out by experts.
Of 20 neighbors interviewed in different neighborhoods of the district, 70 percent said they did not agree with the program “Bachéale”since they consider it unfair that to solve the problem of holes in the pavement of secondary roads, the mayor’s office headed by Rojo de la Vega asks for materials and tools from the neighbors, since this work is within their powers and they should use the money from their coffers for it.
It should be noted that the six respondents who did approve the policy agreed that the Cuauhtémoc government should cover the potholes with its own resources; however, they considered that without mechanisms like this, it is unlikely that the mayor’s office will repair the streets in poor condition.
In all cases, those consulted considered that if an expert is not the one who performs the task, it is unreliable that the blocked pothole will not reappear in a short time.
“It would have to be a public servant, but they don’t do it, they promised us a lot and they didn’t,” declared Jessica Huerta, a neighbor of the Santa María de la Ribera neighborhood, who said she agreed with the “Bachéale” program.
The government of Alessandra Rojo de la Vega spent 19 million 221 thousand 440.2 pesos during the second quarter of this year alone on the repaving and patching of secondary streets in Cuauhtémoc, according to what the mayor’s office itself declared in the National Transparency Platform.
