Brisbane Roar have dedicated their 2-1 victory over Perth Glory to Michael Valkanis after the veteran coach made an emergency trip to Greece due to a family medical emergency.
Valkanis flew to Greece just hours before Friday night’s game in Perth, with assistant Borja Lema left in charge.
Glory captain Adam Taggart opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Christopher Long equalized from the penalty spot in the 30th minute.

Samuel Klein scored in the 50th minute to snap a three-game losing streak with the win and lift Brisbane to third place with 21 points.
Glory, on 16 points, would move up to fourth with a win, but defeat leaves them ninth.
“This victory is dedicated to Michael, it is very special and we stand behind him and his family,” said Lema.
“I’m very happy for the boys and it’s an important win for us.”
“We don’t know yet when he will be back. We are in communication with him and we are with him and his family.”
Glory opened the scoring when Trent Ostler was set up with a clever flicked pass by Taggart, who expertly knocked the ball into his own lane before unleashing a confident finish low on the left.
