The mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, refused to comment on the possibility of councilor Bruno Mascarenhas losing the trust of André Ventura’s party, which presented him as head of the ticket in the 2025 municipal elections. “I have no coalition with Chega, nor will I ever have one,” said Moedas.
Questioned by RTP, during the tsunami simulation exercise held on the morning of this Tuesday, March 24th, the mayor of Lisbon recalled that he dismissed Mafalda Livermore, a former Chega activist and alleged girlfriend of Mascarenhas, who had been appointed administrator of the city’s Social Services, “when he learned of the facts” relating to suspicions of renting clandestine housing to immigrants and alleged usurpation of functions by offering legal services.
Moedas said that the implications of Mafalda Livermore’s dismissal and disaffiliation from Bruno Mascarenhas’ mandate have nothing to do with him. “This is Chega’s problem,” he said.
In the 2025 municipal elections, the Por Ti, Lisboa coalition (PSD-CDS-Iniciativa Liberal) received the most votes, re-electing Carlos Moedas for a second term as head of the capital’s city hall. However, he only secured a majority in the municipal executive after assigning portfolios to councilor Ana Simões Silva, number two on the Chega ticket, who became independent in an open confrontation with Bruno Mascarenhas.
