Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña announced that he will request leave to temporarily separate from his seat starting this October 24.
On social networks, the former president of the Senate Board of Directors did not report the reasons for his leave and simply said that “It will be for a while (…), I have things to do, I have a task assigned to me.”
He commented that this Tuesday he will call a press conference with the media to announce the reasons for his upcoming absence.
“Next the 24th, it is Thursday the 24th, starting on Thursday the 24th, I am going to ask for leave in my capacity as senator of the Republic. “They’ve been speculating, because I almost lost my mind last week,” he expressed in his video talk on social networks.

Noroña said that his decision has already been formalized through bureaucratic channels.
“Be patient, tomorrow we will talk to the media and we will broadcast live, so that no one has to see any particular media,” he told his followers on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok.
He acknowledged that his announcement generated speculation in recent days, but He rejected that his decision is related to the accusations or “political beating” he has faced.
“Because of the scandals they run my errands, all their intrigues. I am very aware of the responsibility that this impliesand I have not moved one millimeter from my principles or my commitment to the people,” he stressed.
During the broadcast, the senator said that he made the determination after a process of personal and political reflection.

He assured that his decision responds to his “commitment to the country and to the transformation,” and that he does not intend to abandon the fight that he has led from Congress. “The positions are temporary, but the contribution remains for life. I am not going to throw overboard what we have built. I am going to remain firm, like a rock, no matter what happens, at the cost that has to be paid,” he said.
