Orange Alerts for Snow and Strong Wind in Portugal this Friday

The IPMA placed several districts on orange alert for wind, snow and sea disturbances.

The districts of Lisbon and Leiria will be under orange warning until 3 pm due to the forecast of strong winds on the coast and in the mountains with gusts of around 90 kilometers per hour, then turning to yellow until 9 pm.

Due to the strong wind, IPMA also placed the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga under yellow warning until practically the end of the day.

The Institute also issued an orange warning for the districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco until 3pm this Friday and for Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Coimbra and Braga until the same time.

With regard to maritime unrest, the districts of Faro and Beja will be under orange warning (until 9pm), Lisbon and Leiria (until 6pm) and Coimbra until 3pm, then changing to yellow, with waves from the northwest measuring 5 to 6 meters being expected, with a maximum height of 11 meters.

On Thursday, the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned the population to take preventive measures until this Friday due to the worsening of the weather on the continent, with strong wind, rain, snow and waves that can reach 11 meters.
