Salina, NY – A more than 13-hour standoff in Salina ended early Saturday morning when deputies entered a home and took a man into custody.
According to Thomas Newton, a spokesman for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, a man died after being stabbed Friday afternoon at a home at 543 Sunflower Dr.
Deputies stormed the home about 5 a.m. Saturday and took the stabbing suspect into custody, Newton said. The man is being treated for his injuries.
Deputies have not released the man’s name or said whether the person has been charged.
The standoff began at 3:41 p.m. Friday when deputies were called to a home where they found a man with stab wounds to his neck.
The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition but later died.
The wanted man barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out, Newton said.
Dozens of MPs, police and firefighters responded to the standoff. Nearby homes were evacuated, neighbors said.
The suspect started a house fire overnight, Newton said. Firefighters, protected by SWAT personnel, continue to fight the blaze, he said.
Between 15 and 20 flashes were heard at one point before 11am.
The standoff ended when deputies stormed the home and took the man into custody early Saturday morning.
