Plane makes emergency landing in São Paulo after engine explosion after takeoff (see video)

An engine on a Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-323 exploded shortly after takeoff at Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, Brazil, as it began its journey to Atlanta, in the United States.

The incident was recorded at 11:49 pm this Sunday (3:49 am this Monday, in Lisbon) and forced the pilot to declare an emergency as soon as the engine on the left side exploded, and immediately began procedures to return to the runway, which happened with no injuries reported among the 272 passengers and 14 crew members who were on board.

There were several explosions, with part of the engine components falling to the ground next to the runway. According to Flightradar24, the flight lasted nine minutes and 12 seconds, and as soon as it landed, firefighters took action and put out the fire within a few minutes.

Delta Airlines reported on its official website that it canceled flight DL0104 due to mechanical problems and apologized for the inconvenience, detailing that it was a mechanical problem with the engine and that the passengers were taken by bus to the terminal.
