A National Team football team continues to prepare for the next match against the United States with the conviction that the internship is reinforcing internal competitiveness and fine-tuning processes with a view to the World Championship, highlighted several Portuguese internationals in statements to Canal 11.
The national selector, Roberto Martinezhighlighted that the team has taken advantage of the internship to consolidate ideas and increase solutions, considering that the next meeting will be decisive in this trajectory. “We need to reach the last third more and better, but I think now the game against the United States allows more than 90 minutes to continue what we are looking for”, he stated, adding that the work carried out so far reinforces confidence in preparing for the international competition: “I think we are now a better team prepared for the World Cup.”
Also João Cancelo pointed out the importance of these matches as fundamental stages of competitive growth before the decisive phase of the national teams’ season, remembering that the team needs to raise its exhibition levels with international ambition. “We are a team that has great players, we have a lot of technical quality within this team and I think we all have to give a little more”, said the full-back, also highlighting that the proximity of the World Cup requires maximum collective demand: “We have a World Cup in two, three months and we have to be prepared.”
In the defensive sector, Rui Silva highlighted the group’s competitive spirit and the relevance of the upcoming tests to consolidate the individual and collective candidacy for the tournament. “The important thing is the team, the chemistry, the group we are building and the preparation for what is to come”, stated the goalkeeper, also assuming the personal ambition of being part of the final squad: “I have a big goal, which is to be in the World Cup.”
Among the offensive options, Paulinho recognized that the fight for a place on the final list remains open and faces the challenge with natural ambition. “I’m Portuguese, I’ll do everything I can to be that third option, but it’s up to the coach to decide”, declared the striker, guaranteeing full availability to contribute within or outside the final group of players called up.
