Portugal recorded the lowest number of tuberculosis cases ever in 2024

On World Tuberculosis Day, the Department of Health releases the Disease Surveillance and Monitoring Report and reveals that, two years ago, 1,536 cases were registered, a notification rate of 14.3 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, the lowest ever. But WHO wants two cases per 100,000 inhabitants by 2035. Sofia Sousa, deputy of the National Program for the disease, says that, despite the “good news, Portugal still has a lot to do”.
