Portugal will participate in the creation of the special court for war crimes in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel announced this Wednesday, April 1, in Parliament.
“Portugal now has full participation here, which is a very important development”said the head of diplomacy during a hearing by the parliamentary committee on European Affairs.
Rangel told deputies that this position was conveyed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Inês Domingos, at the informal European Union Foreign Affairs Council that took place on Tuesday in Kiev, to mark four years since the Russian massacre in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.
The minister began his intervention in the parliamentary committee with a word of solidarity with Ukraine, regarding the four years since the Bucha massacre.
The Special Court for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine was created in May 2025 by Ukraine, the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, called an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kiev to reinforce the bloc’s commitment to Ukraine.
