Portuguese wanted by France for tax fraud detained by PJ in Viana do Castelo

A 36-year-old Portuguese man wanted by French authorities for a conviction for tax fraud was found and detained in the district of Viana do Castelo, the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced this Sunday, April 12th.

In a statement, the PJ explained that the French authorities had already issued a European arrest warrant to serve the 18-month prison sentence to which he was sentenced.

The case is related to the crime of tax fraud, having been proven in court that, “as legal director of a company linked to the textile industry, the man did not present the declaration of taxable transactions subject to VAT, carried out between February 3, 2016 – date of incorporation of the company – and November 30, 2016 – date on which the VAT limit was exceeded”, pointed out the PJ.

After being detained by the PJ, through the Criminal Information Unit, the man was presented to the Guimarães Court of Appeal and was released pending extradition, with weekly appearances at the criminal police body where he resides.
