They are members of the Superior Council for National Defense, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Chiefs of Staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force. The president of the parliamentary committee on National Defense, Pedro Pessanha, is also a member of this advisory body for the head of state.
