As attempts to find a common left-wing candidate are considered exhausted, Livre will advance to the presidential contest, supporting the candidacy of Jorge Pinto, deputy elected by the Porto constituency, who in a letter sent to party members explains the reasons for his availability. “This is the time to set the agenda. Our agenda. But we will only be able to do so by playing the game and being at the center of the debate. I move forward with awareness of the scale of the challenge but confident that this is the right decision. The historical moment requires this”, can be read in the document.

For the leader of Livre, “the political space of the environmentalist, progressive, European, regionalist and libertarian left cannot be left without representation. Because only by playing the game can we influence the debate that will be about some of the most fundamental points in the life of our country, including a possible constitutional review carried out by the right and a possible legislative election where Chega is the party with the most votes”, he writes.

Jorge Pinto has been with LIVRE since its foundation, having been part of the Contact Group from 2014 to 2020, the party Assembly between 2020 and 2024, and since then again in the Contact Group. He was Head of List in 2015, for the Europe circle, and in 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025, for the Porto circle for which he was elected deputy in 2024 and 2025. As a deputy he has already been a member of the Budget, Finance and Public Administration, Environment and Energy, Agriculture and Fisheries and Culture, Communication, Youth and Sports committees.

“The historical moment we are living in obliges us to have the courage to assume responsibilities. More than 50 years after April and the beginning of the Second Republic, its ideals, its principles, its values, are under attack. In a presidential election of an importance the likes of which has not been seen for decades, it is everyone’s obligation to reflect on the role we want to play. That’s why I say Present”, he adds.

Born in Amarante, he lived outside Portugal between 2008 and the end of 2023, with more or less long stays in Lithuania, India, France, Italy and Brussels. Environmental engineering and PhD in social and political philosophy, with a thesis on republicanism, ecology and post-productivism, either “with this candidacy continue to contribute so that LIVRE continues to be the party of concrete utopias”.

Jorge Pinto joins Marques Mendes, Gouveia e Melo, António José Seguro, António Filipe, Catarina Martins, Cotrim de Figueiredo and André Ventura
