The president of the PSD defended this Tuesday, October 21, that the political-party cycle that began in 2022 ended with victories in local, legislative and regional elections, but stated that the main objective was not the results, but “to govern well”.

“We can, of course, show satisfaction at obtaining these results, but this is not the objective we want for our political action: this is just the instrument we need to achieve the objective. The objective is to change people’s lives. The objective is to govern well”said Luís Montenegro, at the beginning of the party’s National Council, in an intervention open to the media.

In a speech lasting around half an hour, the PSD president and also prime minister never referred to the State Budget for 2026, which will be voted on in general next week, focusing on the electoral results obtained during his leadership of the Social Democrats.

In the end, he left a challenge to the party: “On the day we remember the great victory we had in the local elections, my word to our party, to our people, is let’s get to work. We won the elections to work”appealed.
