The Labor Party deputy (PT), Ana Karina Rojo Pimentelpresented an initiative to declare November 13 of each year as the “National Wellbeing Day”, the same date as the birthday of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Until now, the only holiday that coincides with the birth of a former president in Mexico is March 21, to commemorate Benito Juárez.

The initiative does not mention Lopez Obradorbut maintains that in Mexico, “Recent years have marked a change of course. The State has begun to reorient its actions towards a model that places people and their well-being at the center. It is no longer conceived as a favor or a privilege reserved for a few, but as a right that must be guaranteed with justice and equity.”

He points out that the choice of November 13 as a date to commemorate National Wellbeing Day is neither arbitrary nor fortuitous: “On the contrary, it responds to a series of symbolic, strategic and social considerations that allow us to give this date a deep national meaning”.

“First of all, November 13 does not interfere with any civic, historical or cultural commemoration of a national nature officially established in our country, which allows this day to be highlighted with its own identity within the civic calendar and facilitate its institutionalization without overlapping with other events of public relevance. Furthermore, it should be noted that on November 13 coincides with World Kindness Day, an international commemoration that promotes acts of compassion, empathy, generosity and respect.”

After its presentation, on October 14, the initiative was turned over to commissions for analysis.
