Race by race tips and guide for Randwick (Kensington) on Wednesday

Selections based on good to soft track.

Race 1

1. Astronomyx showed good early speed to lead his last test and made it quite easy at the finish so he has done more than enough to say he will go well on debut. He just needs to offset the gate but it’s only 1000m and he shouldn’t have too many excuses. 4. Appin Opal was not seen in her first trial but landed on the back of the lead in the second before daring a smart win over 900m. Whether sharper trials are to come will be interesting. Respect. 6. Far-fetched was a little overpriced in his first trial but still ran well and then turned his leg nicely to win the second
1050 m.
How to play it: Astronomix to win.

Race 2

4. Portofino he had little favor in the run, got well back but attacked the line first at Canterbury with great intent when he came in third. Solid betting there too. Big barrier switch, JMac on and in the distance. Definitely take some beating. 6. Long live Mauricio he did a good job given the winner was in control up front and finished second behind Hereward at Canterbury a month ago. That horse and a third horse have since won again. Back in the way and stretched, but worth thinking about. 7. The movie Night On Boxing Day, she found herself offside in a big field at Randwick and worked well to finish in midfield. The blinkers go on and she could be an improver here.
How to play it: Portofino will win.

Race 3

9. Beautiful she is a nicely bred filly on her debut and has been testing quite nicely for some time. In her last hit over 740 meters she settled well and was gobbling them up late. If he comes across what he performs in the morning of the rehearsal, he will be close. 5. Double vision is a four-year-old on debut and has done no wrong in her recent trials to win comfortably from the front. Based on those she will be forward and could easily catch. 11. The lady of the castle she was a well-supported favorite on debut at Gosford and found herself last on the bend before moving into second place. Again, a tricky gate, but it has a flip side and must be included.
How to play it: Nice to win.

Race 4

2. Release hard to beat straight away in class on her unlucky third at Randwick when first out over 1400m. Keep looking for blocks before handing in late. He’s gaining weight, but it looks like he’s calling for a trip, and he’s found the perfect scenario. 4. Shannon goes straight to this route after rounding up the third sound over 1200m at Gosford, found it too short but runs nicely. Expect him to run well. 3. Kilkenny has his blinkers off after showing a disappointing shade in the same race as Unleeshing. She may have been too close in the run, but even back in class she has a chance to improve.
How to play it: Release to win.
