According to the Vatican Newsthe Pontiff passed through the five stations inside the Roman amphitheater and another nine outside, with more than 30 thousand people present.
The meditations, inspired by the Gospels of the Passion and the writings of Saint Francis of Assisi, in the context of the 800th anniversary of the saint’s death, “evoked wars, abuses of power, violence that humiliates human dignity and the silent suffering of so many mothers and families”, says the publication.
At the end of the Way of the Cross, the Pope pronounced the prayer Almighty composed by Saint Francis of Assisi, recalling that he invited Christians “to live life as a path of progressive involvement in the relationship of love that unites the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”, and appealed to hope.
