Seguro reinforces presidential team with 16 appointments in Belém

The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, took another step in consolidating his team in Belém, with the appointment of 16 new members, made official in the Official Gazetteincluding the Head of the Military House and the Head of the Communications Center. His predecessor, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, also appointed two people to his former President’s office, a structure that guarantees institutional support after the end of his term.

Among the most relevant appointments is the confirmation of the name of lieutenant general Paulo Maia Pereira as Head of the Military Houseone of the most sensitive functions of the Presidency.

The Military House is responsible for advising the President on defense and security matters, liaising with the Armed Forces and organizing military and protocol ceremonies, among others. Paulo Maia Pereira was director of training for the Portuguese Army, a structure based in Évora, and was deputy chief of the Army General Staff until last December.

The appointments to the Casa Militar team also include three military advisors, three field aides and three secretaries: frigate captain Humberto Santos Rocha, aviator pilot colonel Filipe Silva Cordeiro and cavalry major Fátima Vieira da Costa were appointed military advisors, while frigate captain Marta Isabel Araújo, major Catarina Patrício Botica and major Tânia Mora Ferreira were appointed aides-de-camp. Ana Vieira Matias, Ana Cavaco Louro and Sanda Barros Carvalho were appointed secretaries.

Another prominent name is that of lieutenant colonel Fernando Manuel Ferreira da Silva, named Head of the Communications Center of the Presidency of the Republica center responsible for ensuring secure communications for the President, managing information and data transmission systems, supporting coordination in crisis situations, among others.

The Vice Admiral Aníbal Júlio Maurício Soares Ribeiro was appointed secretary of the Superior Council for National Defensea fundamental advisory body on strategy and security matters.

Insurance also made choices for the Civil Housea structure that deals with political, legal and administrative support to the President, appointing Carla Reis e Silva and Carla Tubal de Carvalho as secretaries.

The President also appointed João Paulo Silva Fernandes and Miguel Figueiredo Lopes to the reinforcement of the technical imaging teamresponsible for visual communication and institutional coverage.

These 16 appointments published this Thursday in the Official Gazette follow the 18 already announced yesterday.
