Dolores, a 50-year-old retired teacher from the State of Mexico with training in psychology, went to a routine checkup. Her life turned upside down when the doctor detected a reddish discharge coming from her breast. Five years ago, she had been warned about a small ball requiring monitoring and treatment.
After that consultation, the via crucis that thousands of women in Mexico go through, many of them, began. victims of late diagnosis or reluctant to prevention.
The analyzes confirmed the feared diagnosis: breast cancer in advanced stage. There was very little to do. A year later, despite treatment, the disease metastasized to the bones. All effort was already useless.

She, like thousands of Mexican women -8,053 in 2023 alone-, lost the battle against this disease that, detected in time, has a cure rate of up to 95%, according to the National Cancer Institute (INCan).
The most recent record of Inegi (2023) reveals that at the national level, for every 100 thousand women aged 20 and over, the mortality rate from breast cancer was 17.9.
Among the entities with the most cases are Sonorawith the highest rate: 27.5, followed by Chihuahua con 25.2, Coahuilacon 24.0, Nuevo Leon23.9 y Jalisco with 22.4; while the lowest ones are in Campeche with 9.9 and Guerrero con 11.0.
