British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made an urgent appeal to Ukraine’s international allies to increase military support for the country. Especially before the onset of winter, it is crucial that Ukraine is equipped with more long-range weapons to strengthen its defense capability. This demand was made ahead of a meeting of the so-called Coalition of the Willing in London, at which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also be present.

The meeting in London, which will be attended by Starmer and Zelensky, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, is intended to coordinate international support for Ukraine. Around 20 other heads of state and government will join in virtually to discuss the urgent issues. The aim is to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and end the war.

The proposed measures include not only the supply of weapons, but also the banning of Russian oil and gas from global markets. The use of Russian assets to support Ukraine’s defense efforts is also being considered. These measures are intended to help protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from Russian attacks and strengthen the country’s economic base.

The so-called Coalition of the Willing consists of over two dozen states led by France and Britain aiming to provide Ukraine with military security guarantees following a possible ceasefire with Russia. Despite several proposals to end the bloody conflict, Putin vehemently rejects any chance of peace. It is therefore essential to also discuss how to protect the Ukrainian energy infrastructure from Russian attacks.
