MIAMI.- Donald Trump’s national security advisor, Stephen Millerasked Latin American governments to combat drug trafficking cartels as if they were terrorist organizationslike ISIS or Al-Qaeda.
At a conference in Miami, he maintained that these criminal groups can only be defeated with military power.
And he warned that illegal immigration facilitated by traffickers It should also be considered a form of terrorism.
“The cartels that operate in this hemisphere They are ISIS (Islamic State) and Al-Qaeda of the Western Hemisphere and they must be treated as brutally and ruthlessly as we treat those organizations,” he stressed.
Mexico does not attend “Americas against cartels”
Miller gave a speech to the guests at the meeting “Americas against the cartels“, military and security representatives of the majority of the countries in the region, with exception of Mexico, Colombia and Brazil.
“This begins with the dismantling of these organizations who traffic drugs, cause violence, murder, extort and also illegally traffic human beingswhich is a form of terrorism too.”

The Trump Administration designated drug trafficking organizations as terroristssuch as the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), the Northeast, the Gulf, the United Cartels and the Nueva Familia Michoacana, as well as gangs such as the Tren de Aragua, MS-13 and Barrio 18.
For its part, Pete HegsethSecretary of War, led the inaugural conference of the “Americas against the cartels” at the headquarters of the United States Southern Command (Southcom) in Doral, southern Florida, where he reaffirmed that President Trump’s new Monroe or “Donroe” Doctrine justifies military attacks on drug traffickers in Latin America.
Hegseth warned that Washington is ready to launch a solo military offensive against cartelsfor which he asked Latin Americans to fight narcoterrorists.
The conference occurs days after the first joint military operation of the United States and Ecuador against organizations narcoterrorists in that South American country, after a visit by Francis Donovan, commander of Southcom.
In addition, the Trump Administration has bombed 44 vessels allegedly linked to drug trafficking in the Pacific and the Caribbean since last September, leaving at least 150 dead, under Operation ‘Southern Spear’.
