Support to recover cultural heritage damaged by storms can now be requested

“Public, private or cooperative and social sector entities responsible for the ownership, management, safeguarding or conservation of cultural assets (movable or immovable) that were damaged by the storms of January and February You can now apply for the exceptional financial support mechanism, worth 12 million euros, created by the Government through the Cultural Heritage, Public Institute”informs this Friday, April 3, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in a statement.

The support will be financed by the Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Fund and is intended “to urgent and priority interventions in cultural heritage, in order to ensure its physical integrity and the preservation of its historical and heritage value, as well as the prevention of risk situations”.

Interventions in cultural assets classified, in the process of being classified or inventoried, as well as other assets of recognized cultural interestl, explains the ministry supervised by Margarida Balseiro Lopes.

Applications must be duly substantiated “with the detailed characterization of the damage verified, the updated photographic record of the state of the cultural property, the description of the proposed safeguard or recovery actions and the budget estimate of the necessary interventions”informs the Government.

To apply, you will need to fill out the form available on the Single Public Administration Services Portal.

More than 120 museums and monuments suffered damage following the severe storms that hit the country in January and February, especially in the districts of Leiria, Coimbra and Santarém.

In February, the Minister of Culture estimated the financing needs for the recovery of the affected heritage at R$20 million.
